The Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI)

In response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s 2018 report Building A Safer Future, the Construction Products Association (CPA) established the Marketing Integrity Group (MIG) to address the issues raised, and to stand up to the credibility challenge facing our industry following the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.

Disasters like Grenfell have cast a shadow over our sector, despite all the good work that is undertaken daily by thousands of businesses operating across the supply chain. The reputation of our industry is now at risk and collectively we need to put it right. It is our responsibility to regain confidence, credibility and integrity in what we do and how we do it, and to demonstrate technical competence that can be trusted.

A vital strand is to rebuild trust among Architects, Consultants, Contractors and many others who specify or use our products and their performance data on a daily basis, to build the great buildings and infrastructure in which we live, work and play.

Call For Evidence

In 2019, the MIG conducted a Call For Evidence survey that attracted over 500 responses across the industry. It was clear from this research that the integrity of our sector would be judged by the way in which we respond. In particular, that users of our products must be able to rely upon the information given to them, and specifically that product information should be: Clear, Accurate, Up-to-date, Accessible and Unambiguous – the five acid tests.

After two years of looking hard at ourselves, of open debate and discussion, of engagement with various parts of the supply chain, and following detailed analysis of the Call For Evidence, the MIG has developed a Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI).

The new 11-point Code sets a level playing field for all construction product manufacturers to ensure that the information they provide, in whatever format that might be, pass the five acid tests identified from the 2019 survey.

Industry Consultation

The MIG is now driving an industry-wide consultation to give manufacturers, specifiers and users of information an opportunity to comment on the new Code, the implementation of its 11 Clauses, and the proposed ongoing management and policing. We trust the industry will recognise the importance and urgency of the Code, and embrace the opportunity to be involved in the consultation.

Download the consultation report with the new Code here. Please take time to read the report before completing the survey.

The consultation is now live and will close on the 31st March 2021. To take part, click here.
